How we make design
Designing used to mean betting on one direction and sticking to it. Every further version cost days of work, so in practice they were never made: the client got one, plus an argument for why it was the right one.
Thanks to AI we can explore design directions and generate prototypes fast. What used to take several days now takes one afternoon.
Yes
Trying out new ideas and directions fast, the ones there was never time for.
No
Generating a pile of variants and selling them as finished work.
Why our design is first rate
Drawing a design is one thing. Knowing the techniques that get the most out of it and give it a soul is another. A site like that stays with you for days and comes back to mind when it is time to order.
-
Rive
Animation that notices the visitor. It reacts to a hover and to a click, and it does not just loop like a video.
-
Variable font
A typeface whose weight and size change smoothly. A tiny caption and a big headline still look like one family.
-
three.js
Real 3D right in the page. Turn an object around and the light and the shadow are worked out on the spot, no video involved. The scenes in our portfolio are made this way too.
-
Canvas
A surface the page draws on, picture after picture. Click into the scene to switch the weather.
-
GSAP
The tool behind the movement of this whole page. It brings dozens of things into one choreography that can be played, stopped or run backwards.
-
SVG
A picture made of curves instead of dots. Its shape and colour can change right in the page.
-
Matter.js
Physics in the page. Things fall, bump into each other and bounce off as they would for real. The balls can be grabbed and thrown.
-
WebGL shader
Drawing that the graphics card takes over, working out the picture dot by dot. The chameleon skin in the header is made this way.
-
Lottie
An animation from a designer that fits into the page instead of a video. It is sharp at any size and weighs a fraction of a video. Click and the next smiley arrives.
What we design
From a logo to a roll-up. You can take a single piece of it or the whole lot.
Visual identity
- A logo and its variants for light and dark backgrounds, for the web and for print
- Custom illustrations your own images instead of the stock ones your competitors have too
- A brand manual the rules that make the company look the same everywhere
- Graphics for social media profile pictures, cover photos and post templates
Websites and apps
- A website to measure from the front page to an article or product detail
- An app interface overviews, forms and tables that get used every day
- Mobile apps iOS and Android designed as one thing, not a website in a wrapper
- A clickable prototype a design you walk through before any programming starts
Print and materials
- Business cards and letterheads cards, letterhead paper and envelopes in one visual
- Roll-ups and posters large formats that read even from a distance
- Invitations and flyers typesetting with bleed, not an image stretched to A5
- Brochures and catalogues multi-page materials ready for print
- Merch prints for T-shirts, stickers and small things
Presentations and proposals
- Presentations for clients a deck where what matters is visible at first glance
- A template for your team layouts you fill with your own content
- A product presentation a website, a PDF or another format of your choice
- A case study a finished job written up and typeset so it can be passed on
Frequently asked questions
-
How much does it cost?
We have no per-item price list: an identity for a three-person company and an identity for a movement running a campaign on the ground are not the same work. But we name the price up front and for the whole scope, not by the hour. If the scope changes along the way, we say so straight away, not in the invoice.
-
What if I do not like the design?
That is exactly why we show several directions before anything gets drawn out. If we cannot agree on any of them, we say so at the start, not after a month of work.
-
We have our own logo, will you just do the website?
Yes. We take your identity as the brief. If we run into something in it that will cause trouble on the web, we say so and propose a way around it.
-
Do we get the source files?
Yes, layers and components included.
-
Will you build a site from someone else's design?
Yes. We just need to see the mobile version and the subpages as well, not only one screen. Whatever is missing we draw, and we say the price up front.
-
Will you design print, too?
Yes. Roll-ups, posters, invitations and merch. We prepare the files so the printer takes them without questions.
What shall we make for you?
Write and tell us what you need drawn and why. We will come back with what we would start with and what it would cost. If we think you do not need it yet, we will say that too.
